It’s a damn shame that grad students have to even consider a strike in order to get compensated for all the work they do. Most universities couldn’t even function without them. What they receive is certainly not close to a living wage, especially considering the cost of living in Bloomington. How can the grad students even find the time to work another job? This is infuriating. In the meantime, the cost of tuition and books keeps rising. Where does all this money go? Trust me, I know.

I went to 2 small community type colleges which don’t cost as much as large universities, but still generated a substantial amount of debt. I am a retired old woman on Social Security and still technically have student loan debt. The loans are on hold because they’re income based, but what is wrong with this picture?

I feel sick and guilty thinking of my kids and the debt hanging over their heads. As a divorced, single parent, I could not afford to send them to college without the scholarships they received and loans they had to take out in their names. They are all grown adults and these loans indirectly affect them and the lives they have worked so hard for and deserve.

One thing Zara said was extraordinarily insightful (and something establishment Democrats have never understood): even with challenging odds, there are fights worth having.
