Episode 61: HoosLeft Thanksgiving Roundtable

A cornucopia of fruitful discussion on the path forward for the Indiana Left.

Episode 61: HoosLeft Thanksgiving Roundtable

featuring Jesse Brown, Brandon Dothager, Erik Hurt, Clif Marsiglio, Amy Noel, Brandy Snider, Brad Sowinski, Andrea Watt, and Anderson York. I am thankful for each of them.

Happy Thanksgiving week to those who participate. As someone who loves to cook for a crowd (and loves to eat), Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. I know, I know. How colonizer of me. Take my leftist card. But, have you had pumpkin pie? Stuffing? Gravy?Football?! America! It’s complicated.

The holidays can be an emotionally fraught time. Many of us on the left are still distressed over the election results, wondering how we’re supposed to dine pleasantly with our Fox-pilled relatives and their manosphere-poisoned kids, who gladly voted for authoritarianism, knowing they gleefully, even lustfully, anticipate the harm such an administration will bring upon immigrants, trans people, and other vulnerable populations.

Lots of folks have been cutting off family members as they find themselves unable to love someone who would so happily inflict suffering on others. I struggle with this myself, and wish I had the answer for how to handle this dilemma. I’m actually speaking with Jen Senko, documentary filmmaker and author of The Brainwashing of My Dad real soon - I’ll have that interview for you in a couple weeks, and maybe she’ll have some advice for us before we get to Christmas.

So for now, while I can’t help with distressing political discussions at your family’s dinner table, I can offer you this robust dialog from the HoosLeft virtual Thanksgiving table. Friends old and new joined me to talk about the election, why Democrats lost at every level, and where the social democratic left goes next. This is just the first of many discussions we’ll all need to have together over the coming months as we figure out how to organize in the face of a new regime.

PLEASE consider supporting HoosLeft with a paid subscription. I currently work as an independent craftsman to pay the bills and work on this project whenever I can. There are so many more things I want to do here at HoosLeft - more campaign finance research, more live hangouts, and a daily episode if we can get there -but I need your help.
